open water ii.

Given that I started this because of Haikyuu and given that I have been truly madly deeply obsessed with this song, with the idea of above/ue/上/flight so much so it keeps popping up in my own writings, and that I have been tearing through the hq tag on ao3 like nobody's business...this seemed like a suitable choice. How can a song be so full of power and yearning and joy and grief at the same time, I don't understand, listening to this makes me shake and tremble, feels like the knowledge that falling is easier once you're up in the air..honestly I could write an incoherent essay about my feelings for this track. I won't. I also barely managed to restrain myself from reccing like 5 Hinata-centric hq fics and calling it a day lol.

i. the skies don't ever offer respite by shookyfan

Fandoms: 방탄소년단 | Bangtan Boys | BTS

Pairing:
Seokjin/Yoongi

Rating: G, 3k

Summary: Idolverse predebut fic. Mostly gen yoonjin. References Yoongi's accident and injury. I'm not the biggest fan of wing fics but this song compelled me to choose one and so it had to be the most flightless one I could think of.

Favourite Line:
Figuring out Min Yoongi is something Seokjin hasn’t been shown the steps for yet. Namjoon might know, but it’s too late now to go back to their room and ask.

Fandoms:
SHINee

Pairing:
Jonghyun & Kibum | Jinki & Taemin

Rating:
T, 1k

Summary: Gen. MCD. Ghosts. There is sincerely no way for me to describe this fic. It's almost like poetry in its formatting and it's words are simply haunting. Rereading it after reading haikyuu was an Experience because some of the imagery in this fits so well I almost have to wonder if the author has read the manga too. And there's also the fact that Taemin is such an evocative dancer it's almost too easy to imagine him while reading.

Favourite Line:
The new moon is the first mistake, a string in a comedy of errors, but then again, tragedies are only funny to the uninvolved bystander.

iii. set your summer dreams alight by suganii

Fandoms:
Haikyuu!!

Characters: Karasuno Volleyball Club

Rating: T, 16k

Summary: Gen. Manga Spoilers with slight canon divergence. Basically a fic about the first year of timeskip, that is the year of Ennoshita's captaincy. Headcanons about Karasuno, about the other teams. Whatever it is that listening to Above makes me feel, this fic makes me feel it too. It's so emotional in such an ascendant self-affirming manner, it really makes you ache for more haikyuu that's for sure. I had such a hard time choosing a favourite line for this because really it's everything and also I spent a majority of this fic tearing up.

Favourite Line:
Hinata smiles. “Me too.”

iv. parallels (impossibly intersecting) by pinball_mentality

Fandoms:
Haikyuu!!

Characters: Udai Tenma

Rating: T, 864 wc

Summary: Tenma character study series, a mix of canon and au. Somehow ended up with yet another bittersweet fic even though this song also fills me with so much surging positive emotions. Tenma's story is so attractive to me, especially the intersections between Tenma and Hinata. This is an interesting what if fic...(but tbh I chickened out on what I really wanted to rec. I just couldn't get myself to choose one my Hinata-centric character study, I'm too in love with the guy.)

Favourite Line:
the feel of a volleyball stings his hand in a phantom pain so he grips the sink tighter and doesn't regret a thing.

I hope it isn't too awkward to comment here (apologies!!!) [backstory: I was searching through LiveJournal and Dreamwidth for all the fics I've written in the past for exchanges and fests and then lost.] So finding this post was such a lovely surprise. (waveslikebones is my SHINee pseud)

Rereading it after reading haikyuu was an Experience because some of the imagery in this fits so well I almost have to wonder if the author has read the manga too. I have to admit that I have not read hq or watching more than a few episodes of the anime, but I have read a fair bit of fic and so maybe absorbed some of the mood? I'm not quite sure.

I'm glad you enjoyed the story!
