For Yoongi’s birthday, since I was all out of original ideas, I decided to do something I haven’t exactly tried before: put together some of his songs that are special to me along the structure of a poem I have long associated with him. It’s a connection that I drew for reasons inexplicable though it was definitely had a lot do with the section from ‘flower moon’ that I have quoted below.

The poem in question is Perihelion: A History of Touch by Franny Choi from her collection Soft Science, and I chose lines from all twelve lunar sections that her poem is divided into and chose lyrics that I felt corresponded to them best.Read more... )

okay, anon i tried to compile a list and then scrapped it because it felt too incomplete so i'm just going to give you a list of my favourite poets and a couple poems i keep coming back to- this is obviously neither comprehensive nor static but anyway. so for poets i love emily dickinson, richard siken, anne carson, sumana roy, audre lorde, aracelis girmay, agha shahid ali, ocean vuong, paash, may oliver, emily jungmin yoon, ada limon, meena kandasamy, gwendolyn brooks and this is all i can think of right now.

a mix of poems that i return to always/am stuck on right now: because i could not stop for death by emily dickinson, portrait of fryderk in shifting light by richard siken, all my friends are dead: non dinosaur version by sam herschel wein, the unbearable by ada limon, a history of geography by justin chin, and preface to a twenty volume suicide note by amiri baraka.

hope you find something you resonate with among these :)

from a
cc question from 7th October, 2020 that I am putting down here as a reminder to start a rec list.
